Senior Student Recognition Awards

Graduating undergraduate seniors and graduate students are invited to apply for any of the awards listed below for which they qualify. Awardees will be recognized at the department senior celebration activity scheduled in April.

These awards are not academic scholarships. To apply for an academic scholarship, go to the department scholarship web page.

Application Requirements for All Awards:

To apply for an award, you must be graduating in this academic year - meaning December of last year, or April, June, or August of the current year. Your application should reflect your overall development as a student of "faith, intellect, and character who has the skills and the desire to continue learning and to serve others throughout their lives" (Aims of a BYU Education).

Application Requirements for Specific Awards:

Program Recognition Awards

Undergraduate students graduating with a major in Exercise and Wellness or Exercise Science or graduate students graduating with a MAT, MS, or PhD in Exercise Sciences may apply for a Program Recognition Award in one of the following categories.

  • Academics. This award category recognizes students for their academic growth and development as reflected by their overall/major GPA, academic honors and awards, involvement in the department as a teaching assistant, clubs, Study Abroad or other academic activities and learning experiences. This award is not based solely on overall/major GPA.
  • Research. This award category recognizes students for their involvement as a research assistant for a faculty member, conducting individual research, mentoring other students, obtaining ORCA or other sources of funding for research activities, research presentations at a professional conference, or publications.
  • Professional Development and Citizenship. This award category recognizes students for their involvement in meaningful internship experiences, volunteer or employment experiences in areas related to their major and career plans, professional organizations, workshops, seminars, or other forms of training that develop specific skills, certifications, and how they used their knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve the local, national or international communities.

Kerie Jean Waters Athletic Training Award

This award recognizes graduating MAT students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their clinical rotations and commitment and dedication to the profession of athletic training. The student must have an overall GPA of at least a 3.0, be a current student member of NATA, and demonstrate professionalism in their academic and clinical experiences, a strong work ethic, motivation and initiative, and leadership among their peers.

Physical Therapy Award
This award recognizes undergraduate students with any degree from the Department of Exercise Sciences who have applied and been accepted to a graduate physical therapy program.

How to Apply

Use the Student Recognition Awards Application form to apply for any of the awards. Submit your application by March 1.

Submit a printed copy of all your application materials, paper clipped together, without a binder or folder to the Department office in 106 SFH by 5pm on March 1. If the deadline falls on a weekend, you can submit your application materials by 5pm on the following Monday.

Email a high resolution digital copy (jpg) of your photo to the chair of the Awards Committee.
