At a BYU Wellness Well and Wise workshop, Exercise Science Professor Iain Hunter taught faculty and staff how to train for a marathon
At the BYU Wellness Well and Wise workshop yesterday, BYU Exercise Science Professor Iain Hunter taught faculty and staff how to train for a marathon, regardless of where you are starting. Here's a quick rundown of his advice:
- For beginners, run about two miles two or three times a week. After two weeks, add one mile to each run.
- A weekly "long run" is the most important run of your training.
- Always listen to your body because training can be hard on your tissues.
- Allow yourself plenty of time to recover after big races.
