Finding an Internship

Exercise and Wellness Major Requires 4.0 credits
1.0 credit = 42 hours
4.0 credits = 168 hours

Finding an internship is a similar experience to finding a job, and you should follow the same procedures you would when looking for a job.

  1. Reach out to recurring internship sites
  2. Visit the Careers and Experiential website
  3. Look through the Past Internships Database for ideas
  4. Use BYU Handshake

Common Internships

  1. Physical Therapy
  2. Personal Training/Health Coach
  3. Wellness – Corporate, Clinical, or University
  4. Y Be Fit
  5. Strength and Conditioning
  6. Athletic Coaching
  7. Cardiac Rehab
  8. Gerontology
  9. Research with a Professor

Internship Criteria

In order for your internship to be approved it must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Be related to Exercise and Wellness
  2. Have an assigned on-site supervisor who is an experienced professional in the industry
  3. You may not work under the supervision of an immediate family member (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, first cousin, corresponding in-law, or “step” relation)
  4. You may not intern for any organizations owned or managed by any immediate family members
  5. You may not intern as a self-on-site supervisor or intern for another student

Travel Grant Application

The Life Sciences Internship Travel Grant offers up to $400 domestic travel and $600 international travel for student academic internships outside the local BYU area.
